SCILIGION
(SCIence & reLIGION)
Meetup Discussion Group

This is a free bi-weekly discussion group to discuss the issues between science and religion. All religious faiths (and atheism) are included and welcomed. Any questions dealing with science and religion are fair game, such as:

-- Is there DNA evidence for evolution?
-- Were Adam and Eve real people?
-- Can Christians accept evolution?

SPECIAL NOTE
This group has a ZERO TOLERANCE policy
for angry outbursts or rude language. If you
can't guarantee 100% that you'll behave
respectfully, then please do NOT attend.

Our Mission Statement:
"Present a forum where everyone, regardless of belief system,
feels welcome to explore issues of how science and religion interact."

Ground Rules:
-- No personal attacks, angry outbursts, foul language, rudeness, etc.
-- Treat each other as friends; not as enemies
-- Show respect to others even if we deeply disagree with their viewpoint
-- Treat all questions as "good questions" (there are no stupid questions)

Objectives for these meetings
:
-- To learn new things regarding science and religion
-- Make new friends who are interested in the interplay of science and religion
-- Develop a "love for the truth" and a "seeker mentality" within all participants
    (we are all still learning)
-- Videotape for playback on community access TV (Portland OR area) and
    the internet

Our programs are videotaped so they can be played on local community access TV and the internet.  This is an attempt to raise community awareness.  We hope to whet the appetite for the topic of interfacing science and religion.  Many churches don't talk much about it, so we hope to fire-up the conversation within churches, in the hope of advancing spiritual and intellectual maturity.  (For those who are camera-shy, we have a place off-camera for you, so you can still participate in the meetings without being on camera.)

Homework is not required.  However, we will have an advance agenda for those who want to "study-up" before the meeting on the planned topics.  Be sure to sign-up as a member at the meetup group (click here) to get on the email list and get the agenda and general discussions.

(as such, he is usually spurned by both Christians and atheists alike ;-).

His theological and scientific role models are people like Denis Lamoureux, Francis Collins, and CS Lewis (read especially the last chapter of Lewis' book "Mere Christianity" dealing with evolution).
